      Paul Daluz his students do compete in Kyokushin tournaments, Goju Ryu and Kyokushin influent others thru years. Most okinawan and quasiokinawan styles try to make a bridge and cover the gap between kyokushinlesque and shotokanlesque styles.

      Yes. Some old schooled guy discredit the no face punch rule, but actually they overlook the values Kyukushin rule can bring. Such as inhabit the fighters to engage, center line principle, stamina, conditioning etc. Without these, your traditional techniques can not be pulled off. It will deteriorate into hit and run.

    I like the approach the instructor has here. I'm just aping what others say here but this is because he has a good approach. He has the students learn to move and instructs them to block and respond rather than having them practice techniques. It also seems a lot more kid friendly than you might expect such a dojo to be.

    Some of this is actually functional advice. And he's right that people who only train in form will freeze up as soon as they're in a fight. But there are still some problems; he's training these kids to fight people who are also using karate; so they're not getting their hands up to protect their face. Which is the FIRST THING people are going to aim for in a real fight.
    But I do agree that full contact sparring is the only way to effectively stress test any martial art and make sure it's functional. Which makes this MILES better than almost every other traditional martial arts dojo on the planet. Although even though it's a huge improvement, if you're actually wanting to learn to fight then boxing or kickboxing would still be better than this.

    • @DavidTheFlyingGuy2000
      @DavidTheFlyingGuy2000 3 года назад

      There is also Full-Contact Karate styles such as Kyokushin, Ashihara or Shidokan, right?

    • @seraphinaaizen6278
      @seraphinaaizen6278 3 года назад

      @@DavidTheFlyingGuy2000 Yes, but I'm still not convinced of their efficacy over and above, for example, boxing and kickboxing. Since, so far as I'm aware, all of those styles forbid punches or strikes to the head (I think you're allowed to kick to the head, but not punch).
      "Full contact karate" isn't really "full contact" in the same sense as, for example, a boxing match. These styles still have their roots in point sparring and that's how they fight.
      Don't get me wrong, someone who does a lot of sparring in karate is going to be able to protect themselves in a fight; I'm not saying karate isn't functional. Karate is NOT bullshido. But I don't think it's as effective as its modern competitors.
      Trying to modernize karate is all well and good. But it begs the question as to why someone wouldn't just learn kickboxing or MMA instead, which is already miles ahead of karate in terms of functionality.
      If you look at the kids in this video, they're protecting their bodies - that's good. But they're not protecting their heads in the slightest. They're not even learning any head movement. Because they're training in a style where head punches aren't allowed. And that isn't realistic for combat.

    The REAL martial art !

    • @daveshif2514
      @daveshif2514 4 года назад

      the only art is the art of practice. the only form is no form. goju is merely one type of karate, but karate is merely one type of fighting system. without multiple systems being trained and cross applied to each other, you have nothing, nothing but sport. learn goju ryu, thats fine, but learn it so that you so not fall to it, nothing more. learn everything so that you are immune to everything. only then can you say you have a martial "body" wich does not fall when others ask it to

    • @daveshif2514
      @daveshif2514 4 года назад

      yes that is all true. i think its important when cross training not to train in too many styles that are too similar. there is some benefit to learning say both shotokan, and gojuryu but theyre both karate so for example it would likely be more beneficial to learn a karate AND kung fu, or karate and tai chi first. or karate and juijutsu. or juijutsu and tai chi. then you get into using karate and boxing and juijutusu and kung fu and tai chi xian all at the same time.

    • @daveshif2514

      i never said you did or didnt. im agreeing with you.

    • @daveshif2514

      hopkido is super interesting and definately effictive, i dont do any myself, but one of my classmates has an interest in it and has been trying to mix it into what we do, and its pretty deadly. but again, just knowing 1 style well, while really great, is only one path. while cross training might not be necessary, the same can be said for anything, when you consider that the only thing that truly means the difference between winning and loosing, or surviving and going to the hospital is how much more time you put into training than the other person. You dont even have to have ANY formal training to kick some ass, as long as you put in your time, but it certainly helps to have that formal training. The reason i say cross training is so good specifically is because if for instance we fought, i wouldent know what a hopkido guy was capable of if ive never trained in it for real (youtube videos will never help) only experience and a good teacher can help protect you. same would be true for you since we have different main training focuses. I cross train to fill the gaps where my school just hapens to not teach one thing, so i seek out good teachers who do teach that thing, of course im not highly interested in learning tai chi xian but i learned for several years so that i could pick up what i wanted to apply to my main focus. Same is true for my shotokan, i dont USE shotokan, but i know everything that could be done to me WITH shotokan, so i know what to watch out for, and i know what it is good for if i decide that is what i need in a particular situation such as striking someone correctly. My main focus doesnt teach that because it is assumed you already know it. Same is true of any school, because many of these arts were intentionally made "safer" in order to comply with certain legal or moral standards, or to drag out the period of time it takes to learn, thereby retaining students. Hurting someone is easy, but having a good defense is much harder, and in a real situation you will likely be outnumbered, therefor, a good defense is also needed as well as offensive power (offense as a defense) and staying alive is most important. tldr, if you are afraid of knives, and your school doesnt teach knife, go learn knife from somewhere else (ask your teach, they probably took knife training somewhere, and if they dont offer it they will probably tell you where to go). that is cross training. you dont have to focus knife training at all, but you should learn it

    The thing that’s confusing to me about (traditional) sport karate tournament sparring is that you’re basically “fighting” without being in a “real fight”. When your opponent strikes you, of course you will feel pain and want to retaliate with aggression and force. Yet - “sport karate” says: “That’s a no-no. Control your temperament.” When I go to karate tournaments I see many kids “crying” because they can’t handle getting punched and kicked, while their fathers yell out things like: “Come on! Toughen up! Be a man!” And I’m thinking: “It doesn’t look like these kids enjoy what they’re doing. It’s almost as if their parents (particularly their fathers) are vicariously living through them, pushing them to do something that they themselves could not do in the sport.” At times, it’s disturbing to watch these kids taking punches and kicks, and (in many instances) it seems like they’re suffering more than learning something valuable.

      it's preferable to be punched and kicked in a controlled environment than on the streets by some thug or rapist.
      they need to learn to defend themselves. their fathers worry about the kids and want them to be tough for the world.

    Karate in a real fight? Why?
    MMA rules do not allow me to stomp knee caps, backfist someone in the back of the neck, or poke my attackers in the eye with a finger jab. We must all learn to train like we will fight. A true Warfighter cannot limit his possibilities.

    There is no karate, kung-fu, judo, etc. There is only fight in short, middle and long distance, is ground fighting too. It doesn’t matter how you name it, everything looks the same in real fight. You must be fast, dynamic and strong and also precise. That’s it.

      Check out Greg Doucette, has a weird voice but teaches about calorie deficit and diet
      And for training “Calisthenics” though you might eventually want a pull up bar to progress more but that’s it and maybe a jump rope if you can get one, good for cardio and would help for karate and any other type of fighting

      These are my best choices for calisthenics
      Best Calisthenics Channels:
      -FitnessFAQs
      -Calisthenicsmovement
      -AustinDunhum
      -Tao Physique
      -SaturnoMovement
      This channel is only good for workouts, other info that has to do with diet or belly fat loss is unreliable
      -Thenx
      Other channels to check out:
      -TheBioneer:
      dives more into the science behind workouts and talk lots about martial arts and calisthenics
      AthleanX:
      good for learning more about movements and proper form, talks mostly about weight lifting but sometimes about body workouts too
      Greg Doucette:
      informational videos about diet and weight loss, most reliable in my opinion for this subject
